New Signature Report Identifies Transfer and Mobility Patterns of First-Time Students
Dave Jarrat
Director of University Marketing
InsideTrack
This morning, I started reviewing the latest Signature Report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, “Transfer & Mobility: A National View of Pre-Degree Student Movement in Postsecondary Institutions.” While I have yet to digest the entire report, I did find two items quite interesting:
1) Nearly half of 4-year student transfers are “reverse transfers” to 2-year programs

2) 4-year student transfers are lower, but still significant in Year 1 and Years 3+

Advisory Committee Issues Initial Findings of Higher Education Regulations Study

In the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, Congress charged the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance with conducting a review and analysis of regulations affecting higher education to determine the extent to which regulations are overly burdensome and need to be streamlined, improved, or eliminated. The overarching finding is that the higher education community perceives the regulations under the HEA to be unnecessarily burdensome. More important, the majority view is that the specific regulations cited in the study can be improved without adverse effects on program integrity or student success.

Advocates seek to improve assessment of grad program outcomes
According to Debra W. Stewart, president of the Council of Graduate Schools, to achieve better learning outcomes assessment for graduate education that include “input from the graduate community, reflect the diversity of master’s education,” and “[are] informed by the real career needs of master’s-degree recipients,” it is first necessary to develop a “national framework for the collection and use of data on postgraduate careers” and “build a process for community engagement in the definition of learning expectations within and across institutions.”
